Duration: November to late February
In a nutshell, winter is a perfect time to travel through South-East Asia, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar. The usually rather hot and humid climate typical to these tropical and sub-tropical countries is subtle during winter time, making the travel through the lowlands far more agreeable during this time of the year. Further up north, temperatures can get pretty harsh, but this is a great time for some extraordinary trips. Mongolia, China and Japan all offer amazing winter adventures for those seeking trips well off the beaten path. Another less traditional destination during winter is Bhutan. The country does not turn as cold as some would imagine, and even seeing some snow is a rather uncommon sight. On the other hand, this is the time when the sky is the clearest, and the views over the Himalayas should be the prettiest. And as an extra bonus- November in Bhutan sees the annual Black Necked Crane (Tibetan Crane) festival- well worth a visit to see these rare birds!
